The Mercedes-Benz 500SEC 5.4 AMG was a series of C126 S-Class Coupes introduced in 1984. This series of cars was based on the 500 SEC, and featured tuning and refinement from famed Mercedes tuner AMG.The 5.4 AMG was created before AMG was acquired by Mercedes-Benz, and featured an enlarged 5.4L V8 engine, as well as a trademark 'Wide Body' bodykit.

The 500SEC was one of the top variants of the C126 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Coupe. When launched for the 1982 model year, the 500 SEC was the top offering for the S-Class coupes. This line of cars was initially powered by Mercedes' 5.0 L 230bhp M117.963 V8 engine, but for the 1986 model year, the new M117.965 V8 unit was used.

At the 1981 IAA Frankfurt, a coupé version of S-Class, C126, was introduced with 380 SEC and 500 SEC. It was the first time that a coupé version was derived from S-Class chassis. However, the styling was different between the two, making it the first time that the coupé had distinct styling, later evolving into CL-Class.
